Sobrato extended its win streak to four games Tuesday with an 8-2 Blossom Valley Athletic League win over Del Mar.

The Bulldogs used a 13-hit attack that included home runs by seniors Antonio Davi and Tim Buich.

Bulldogs coach Shorty Gutierrez said the offensive surge clinched the victory for Sobrato.

“We just put the ball in play,” Gutierrez said. “Buich’s two-run homer put the dagger in them, finished them off. The game was ours after that.”

Sobrato got some help on the mound as well.

Junior Kevin Sullivan pitched a complete game four-hitter with four strikeouts.

Sophomore Rauley Cambra had three hits to lead the offense.

Gutierrez said that Tuesday’s victory was crucial considering the loss of players from grades and endless injuries on the season.

“The kids have been battling,” Gutierrez said. “They have overcome injuries and grades. The level of intensity has gone up around this team.”

Tuesday’s win moves the Bulldogs’ record to 6-5 in the Santa Theresa Division and 7-5 overall.

“Our pitching has been keeping us in the game,” Gutierrez said. “We’re on a good streak. We just have to keep going.”

The Bulldogs lost 9-3 Tuesday to Santa Teresa in San Jose.

Sobrato coach Ron Piper said that injuries had an effect on the Bulldogs’ performance.

“We’ve had a rash of injuries,” Piter said. “There are a number of girls who are sick and we had to play without three strong players.”

Piper also mentioned that lack of focus kept Sobrato out of the game.

The Saints (2-10, 2-3) jumped on the Bulldogs, scoring two runs in the first and one in the second to get the early lead. They extended the margin to 5-0 after five innings. After Sobrato got two runs back in the sixth, Santa Teresa closed out the Bulldogs with a four-run sixth and finished the game with 10 hits.

After Tuesday’s loss, Piper says he plans to put the injuries aside and move forward.

“The chemistry has been really positive,” said Piter. “We have to take little steps forward. We have to simplify the game. Right now, winning and losing doesn’t count, we have the effort and attitude.”
