The City of Morgan Hill has begun hosting community meetings and circulating a survey among residents for the city’s first Transportation Master Plan.

The first community meetings are scheduled for Nov. 8 and Nov. 16, with the latter of these conducted in Spanish, from 7-9pm at the City Council Chambers building at 17555 Peak Ave. A Dec. 13 meeting is scheduled from 6-8pm for those volunteering in the Transportation Plan Community Stakeholders Group, and the public is invited to attend.

The Morgan Hill City Council began the process earlier this year to create Morgan Hill’s first comprehensive Transportation Master Plan. The plan will aim to provide a number of components, including traffic counts, future traffic modeling, an updated speed survey to set speed limits, review of existing transportation infrastructure, review and analysis of bike and pedestrian infrastructure, development of transportation priorities for the city, creation of a capital improvement program and others, according to the city’s Transportation Master Plan Update web page.

“The TMP will help address challenges related to travel within Morgan Hill for daily needs such as work, recreation, school, etc.,” says a “fact sheet” compiled by the city. “This will be done strategically, within the city’s limited budget and with limited state and federal funding. The TMP will address these challenges in a way that is responsive to anticipated demographic changes and growth of the city.”

The plan will also be used to establish the city’s long-term vision for the future of transportation needs in Morgan Hill, city staff said. It will consider policies and projects that could support that vision, and how to prioritize these aspects based on available funding and needs.

Throughout the coming winter, the city will conduct a series of public meetings and other forms of engagement, expecting to draft the plan’s goals and policies by spring 2024. After seeking further input on the draft, and publishing related Transportation Plan documents for public review, the city plans to present the TMP to the planning commission and city council for review and approval in winter 2024.

Current outreach includes an online survey that residents can fill out through the month of November, in both English and Spanish.
