SAN JOSE – The Morgan Hill National A team finished in second place behind a tough Blossom Valley team in the Pinto Regional tournament at Calero School.

Morgan Hill knew that it could go on if it could just get to the championship game. In that game against Seaside, Morgan Hill was down 9-1 before coming back to win 10-9. The Nationals went with their top pitching lineup of Mitch Hickey, Andreas Bueno and Nelson Pile against Seaside. John Kinsey made a couple nice catches in the game.

“We waisted all of pitching in that game because we knew that was it,” said coach Raul Bueno. “They never gave up. We were running them hard. If you run hard good things can happen. If they make the play, you tip you cap.”

Morgan Hill was defeated 18-8 by the 10-run mercy rule in the championship game.

Bueno and Pile, who switched between first and third base, consistently led the team throughout the tournament both offensively and defensively. Bueno knocked in a home run and had five RBIs in the first game of the tournament – a 12-1 win over PAL.

After picking up a 6-1 victory in the second game, Morgan Hill lost to Blossom Valley 10-0.

John Foresteri picked up several key hits in the tournament, and Blake Porzio, who played his last game, had a couple key walks.

Kevin Nielson, Joey Pearson Mitch Crowley and Joe Forestieri also played solid throughout the tournament. Benjamin Hughes, Aiden Styczynski and Jordan Heintz contributed off the bench.
