Next Tuesday: Live Oak (0-1) vs. Monte Vista Christian (0-0), 7

“I was wondering why the Live Oak teams have uniforms that don’t comply with the official school colors of green and gold.

“A lot of teams have gone to black and white. White uniforms are fine for away games, but some teams are switching to black for home games instead of dark green.

“As an Acorn alumnus and supporter of the school’s athletic programs, I’d like to see our school colors worn.”

Green Phone: Dear Old School LO Backer, Green Phone understands and sympathizes with your concern — what better colors to sport than the school’s?

Caller, you’re not alone.

Live Oak Athletic Director Mark Cummins also favors having the school’s teams revert back to using only forest green and harvest gold, the colors Live Oak has worn for more than a century. Of course, every team needs a white jersey for away games.

White and black became accent colors for the Acorns several years ago. For some teams, black has worked its way into the rotation as a theme color. Ultimately, it’s the coach’s choice for what color uniforms his or her team wears.

So keep voicing your opinion, Backer, and urge your peers to do the same. Like Cummins stated, “Who are we to change tradition?”
