Bulldogs don't know what to expect from struggling Overfelt
Nov 4, 2009
- Staff Reports

MORGAN HILL -- To keep his team fired up for Friday's road game against struggling Overfelt, Sobrato coach Nick Borello has the Bulldogs focused on the big picture.

"It's not about beating Overfelt. It's about winning out last two games," he said Wednesday. "We need to stay hungry and keep getting better."

A postseason berth is within reach, but Sobrato has no room for error its last two regular-season games against the Royals (2-6 overall, 1-3 West Valley Division) and Lick. Should the Bulldogs (6-2, 3-1) win out, Borello is convinced their resume will be impressive enough to merit an at-large bid to the Central Coast Section playoffs.

The Bulldogs have another reason to stay sharp after the 7 p.m. kick-off at Overfelt High; they literally don't know what expect. The Royals have lost and gained several players for academic reasons, Borello said.

Fullback Izzy Castillo-McGraw and tight end Jamile Young, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior, pose the biggest threats to Sobrato -- if they are eligible.

"They could be a completely different team than what we've seen in film," Borello said. "It's hard to tell what to think.

"Obviously, based on their record, we're expecting -- hoping -- to have a good game."

The Bulldogs have not slacked off this week. As a change of pace, they went full contact for the first two practices this week, mixing in the newly promoted varsity players.

"We haven't worked this hard simply because we haven't had the numbers," Borello said. "We need the extra guys to get our injured players healthier and at full strength for the playoffs."
