SAN JOSE -- The Sobrato girls water polo team defeated Lincoln 7-4 Tuesday in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Finals tournament play-in game at Willow Glen High.
Nika Burnett, Melanie Jasper and Devin Koehler scored two goals apiece, and Miranda Herrington netted one for the Santa Teresa Division champion Lady Bulldogs, who will meet Pioneer, the third-place finisher from the Mount Hamilton Division, in the first round of the tournament at 1 p.m. Thursday at Willow Glen.
The winner of that game advances to the Central Coast Section playoffs -- and a semifinal game against Live Oak at 4 p.m. Friday at Live Oak High.
In boys action Tuesday at Willow Glen, Sobrato earned a trip to BVALs with a 9-7 victory over Santa Teresa runner-up Independence. The Bulldogs and Live Oak will play an impromptu rivalry match at 4:45 p.m. Thursday with a CCS berth on the line. The victor will play Mount Hamilton Division champion Leland at 2:45 p.m. Friday.
