Four Barnstormers set to play for USA
Jun 29, 2009
By Andrew Matheson - Staff Writer

HOLLISTER -- Four members of the Central Coast Barnstormers will compete for Team USA's semipro football team this week in France, including center Jose Rodriguez, strong safety Lance Goularte, middle linebacker Ron Birdsell and free safety Mark Martinez.

The nationally-selected semipro team will compete in Nice during the Fourth of July Weekend.

It will mark the third time Goularte and Rodriguez have dressed for Team USA. The two competed for the national team late last year in Mesquite, Nev., when USA played Great Britain on Dec. 6.

The Barnstormers, meanwhile, which lost 14-12 to the Northbay Rattlers in the Northern California Football League Championship Bowl game, were recently honored with 11 selections for the NFC All-Star team, including Korey Gray, Derrick Morrison, Greg Walton, Anthony Edwards, Will Bryant, Ron Birdsell, Ryan Costa, Brian Cortez, Bryan Smith, Will Lawrence and Danny Bettencourt.

The NFC defeated the AFC in the All-Star game, 17-14.
