MORGAN HILL -- The Terminators, of the Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League, won the upper bracket title of the boy's 10-and-under Jamboree Tournament, held Nov. 22-23.
The Terminators, who ended regular-season play at 9-1, beat the Flaming Tornadoes 2-1 in the finals match, avenging a 1-0 loss in the first round. Forward Robbie Gasco scored the Terminators' first goal in the opening half, and Zach Sin pushed the lead to 2-0 when he scored from a sharp angle off an assist from Zach West. The Terminators' defense, led by Jordan McGilvery, Tyler Hudson, Will Molenkamp and Ben Ankiel, held the Flaming Tornadoes scoreless until late in the second half.
The Terminators entered the championship match with a full head of steam after trouncing the Grass Assassins 4-0 in the semifinals.
Right from the beginning, the Terminators had greater ball possession. Gasco provided their first two goals with assists by forwards Yiovanni Alvarez and Jared Jones. Gasco completed a hat trick early in the second half, scoring off a feed from Colin Kyle, and halfback Will Molenkamp netted the final goal with an assist from Sin.
The Terminators waged another revenge victory in the quarterfinals against the Black Nights, the only team that beat the Terminators during the regular season.
The Terminators prevailed 3-1, getting first-half scores from Micah Appleton and Ankiel, and an insurance goal by Dominic Brown in the second. Brown was assisted by Connor Noyes.
The Terminators were shutout in the first round against the Flaming Tornadoes, surrendering the decisive goal early in the game. The Terminators dominated possession from there and took several shots on goal in the second half. Sin and Noyes had shots deflect off the goal posts.
