GILROY -- The Morgan Hill Midget-level Raiders worked another shutout on the road last week.
The Midgets dominated the Bay Side Broncos 26-0 at Monterey's Peninsula College.
This week, the Midgets again executed plays solidly during a 27-0 romp over West Bay. Morgan Hill's high-octane offense set the tone early, driving downfield and scoring in five plays. Quarterback Franky Castillo led the offense with an error-free performance, while running back Obi Mbonu ran well.
The Raiders' defense, meanwhile, worked a brilliant scheme at the line of scrimmage. Midgets coach Steve Sorce said his defense was "impossible to wear down."
The Raiders recorded several sacks, and Morgan Hill's punt-coverage team forced three fumbles.
The Raider Midgets take their two-game winning streak on the road next week to face South Valley.
Jr. Midgets
Morgan Hill's undefeated Jr. Midgets (4-0) waged another big victory Saturday against Gilroy, winning 32-6 on the road.
The silver-and-black set the stage early, when Nicholas Havstad intercepted a pass to set up a 39-yard touchdown run by the Raiders' Trevor Bearden.
Teammates Drew Glines closed the first quarter with another touchdown run, this time from 26 yards out. Glines pushed Morgan Hill ahead 20-0 in the second quarter when he returned a kick-off 88 yards to the end zone.
Gilroy responded with its only score of the game.
Stellar performances by the offensive and defensive lines helped pad the Raiders' lead in the third quarter. Morgan Hill offensive linemen Nick Panos, Willie long, Anthony Ditta and Nicholas Funke opened the door for a second touchdown run by Bearden, making it 26-6.
Raiders quarterback Taylor Turnispeed completed two passes in the fourth quarter, including a 25-yarder to Trenton Cisewski, and Bearden picked off a Browns pass and returned it 65 yards for the final score.
Pee Wees
In a tough, heated matchup Saturday, Morgan Hill's Jr. Pee Wee Raiders settled for a 6-6 tie with Gilroy.
Morgan Hill took advantage of an early fumble recovery, which led to a touchdown run by Paul Lomanto II.
Gilroy answered in the second quarter, though, when the Browns' quarterback snuck into the end zone, tying the game 6-all at the half.
Led by Alexander Panos, Wyatt Bunt, Dylan Jud, Justin Bruno and brothers Trent and Trevor Costello, the Raiders defense worked a shutout in the second half to preserve the draw.
