Looking back, Live Oak softball coach Barry McDonnell called the 2008 season the "other side of 2007."
A year after guiding the Acorns to a hard-fought Mount Hamilton Division title, Live Oak ended its season with a pair of close losses last week, falling 4-3 to Pioneer in 10 innings Wednesday and 5-1 to Evergreen Valley on Friday.
With the two defeats, Live Oak ended the regular season at 14-15 in Blossom Valley Athletic League play - a win shy of qualifying for the CIF-Central Coast Section Playoffs.
"I would say it was exactly the same season as last year," McDonnell began. "The difference was the close games went against us."
The Acorns' final stand came against rally-minded Pioneer. Live Oak led for most of the game, getting a home run from Robin Nelson and RBIs from Sarah Locarnini and Brooke Willis, and took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 10th inning when Pioneer struck.
Nelson finished with two hits, matching Willis and Locarnini - who doubled twice.
"It was a tough one," McDonnell added. "It sort of took them out of their game for Friday, too."
Against Evergreen Valley, Live Oak got its lone RBI from Nelson, who singled and doubled. Locarnini singled twice, and Tanya Ferry, Steph Doting and Willis each recorded hits.
The Acorns graduate five seniors, including Ferry, Locarnini, Nelson, Turay and Dahajaira Lopez.
