There is considerable dialogue lately from some quarters concerning President Bush's (George II) determination, strengths and convictions that are reinforced by Ben Gilmore's recent letter to the editor recounting his latest press conference - "When I say something, I mean it!"
Strong convictions and perseverance are commendable traits in a leader unless they are pursuing an unsound policy.
I recall George I's strong conviction to "hold a steady helm" when the economy was going down the tubes. Not too swift when headed for rocks and shoals. Perhaps a little left rudder would have avoided disaster.
As a registered Republican for five years, I have a problem with George II "walking the talk."
His "Madison Avenue" compassionate conservative mantra is a farce compared to the real thing - Barry Goldwater. One could take what Barry said to the bank.
George II is no Barry Goldwater.
