The 2009 Inaugural Sport Grand Prix put on by Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance didn't boast the largest crowd last Saturday, but those who were there had fun.

"We had something for everyone today", remarked Jeff Dixon, President of MHYSA. The event included a Custom and Classic Car Show, Kid Zone with a football toss, sumo wrestling, face painting and four jump houses including an oversized boxing ring, NFL Flag Football Tournament, raffle, sports memorabilia silent auction and music by JJ Hawg Band.

"Everyone enjoyed themselves at the Car Show," Dick Smith, car show coordinator said. "There were many firsts today, including three winners who registered their cars the day of the show!"

The winners of the Custom and Classic Car Show were:

Best Original Classic 1956 Chevy Bel Air Owner: Jon Maxie

Best Custom 1926 Ford Model T Owner: Richard Smith

Best Muscle Car 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible Owner: Linda and Max Satoma

Best Truck 1950 Chevy Pick Up Owner: Doug Wright

Best Hot Rod 1927 Ford Model T Touring Owner: Kevin Wallace

Best Fenderless 1932 Ford Roadster Owner: Mark Reuter

Best Topless 1969 Camaro Owner: Joe Locin

Best Paint 1973 Dodge Challenger Owner: James Clayton

People's Choice 1979 Jeep CJ5 Owner; Rachel Rosenzweig

The Flag Football Tournament had teams competing in two brackets: 8-9 and 10-11. The winners of each bracket were:

8-9 Bracket Morgan Hill Titans Coach: Kevin Dupree

10-11 Bracket San Jose Team Conquer Coach: Donovan Fernandez

"The boys impressed me today", said Coach Dupree. "We put the team together over just the last week and this is their first time playing together."

The Titans roster included:

Noah Alvarez

Jaylin Bryant

DeVon DuPree

Dion DuPree

Eathan Fleener

Daniel Hurley

Miles Kendricks

Travis Romero

Marshall Silva

Ken Williams

"We hope to make this an annual event so we will go back to the drawing board, make adjustments and start on next year's event", said MHYSA board members Dave Payne and Rui Azevedo. "This is an event worth doing and a cause worth supporting."

Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance is committed to creating a financial aid program for kids who cannot afford to play sports.
