Around the Water Cooler: Was Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin the right choice?
Sep 4, 2008
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
"Do you think presidential candidate Sen. John McCain made the right decision by choosing Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate?"?
Yes: 4
No: 8
■ Karen Anderson: No. She is a seriously inexperienced sop to the conservatives and will likely be distracted from her post by her family problems.
■ Bert Berson: No. The country is not well served if they get elected.
■ Chris Bryant: Yes. The choice of a running mate is no longer based on who would do the best job but on who would be the best strategic choice to garner votes.
■ David Cohen: Yes and I'm not a Republican. While her views and mine differ considerably, It is good to see the GOP tap some new blood for their party.
■ Dennis Kennedy: No. Too much baggage and questionable credentials for a vice president.
■ Julian Mancias: No. She does not have enough political experience to be our country's VP and next in line for the presidency.
■ Hank Miller: No. I can't imagine a worse decision to improve his chance of becoming our next president. Unless, of course, he picked Dick Cheney.
■ Linda McNulty: Yes. I think she is fantastic and this registered Democrat will be voting Republican.
■ Lisa Pampuch: No. Only if securing the GOP's extreme right-wing fringe at the expense of wooing independent and swing voters is wise; I doubt it.
■ John Quick: Yes. I think it will virtually guarantee a win by Obama; therefore it was an excellent choice. A person who does not understand science (believes in creationism) and never had a passport until 2007 simply must not be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
■ Emily Shem-Tov: No. I would have expected someone with more experience and more thoroughly vetted. But it is unlikely I would have agreed with any of the politics of anyone they picked anyway.
■ Steve Staloch: No. John McCain is 72 years old and choosing a woefully inexperienced potential successor in an attempt to sway female voters is irresponsible and disingenuous.
