CHEERS to the collaborative effort under way between special education parents and the Morgan Hill Unified School District. The effort, called the Special Education Advisory Committee, held its first community meeting this week. We commend district officials and parents for their efforts to create transparency, increase communication and work collaboratively to solve special education problems.
JEERS to news that backers of an effort to amend Morgan Hill's affordable housing policies are misrepresenting the kind of survey they conducted, which was a message test, not a public opinion poll, as they make their case. According to an expert interviewed by The Times, message tests are not measures of public opinion and should not be presented as such. This is an important issue to our community that will impact it for generations. Let's be above board and play fair as we debate it.
CHEERS to city officials and others who are conducting an economic development audit for the city. They're trying to compare the cost of doing business in Morgan Hill to other communities. The organizers are looking for businesses to participate. If you're interested, contact Garrett Toy at .
CHEERS to the reminder from the Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities that we live in earthquake country. Let's use it as a reminder of the importance of being ready when a big quake hits, because it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. The scientists can't say when or where a big quake will hit, but did say in their report that it's a virtual certainty that a quake of 6.7 magnitude or more will strike within the next 30 years in California. Are you ready?
CHEERS to Morgan Hill officials for their continuing efforts to raise awareness of environmental issues. Their latest offering is a carbon footprint calculator that's calibrated for Morgan Hill.
