Red Phone

Dear Red Phone,

“I’m calling today because I got the notice for the annual raise for Recology, which was derived from a contact the city made with them. They get an automatic raise every year, which is fine. You can complain, but can’t reverse it unless a majority of the people in Gilroy re-vote against it. My concern is the street sweeper. I’ve lived in Gilroy for decades and I’m one of the people who knows when the street sweeper is coming and I’ll go move my car. I can hear them coming down the street. My problem is that the street sweeper, more than not, will leave more debris, dirt, leaves in front of your house than they take away. I was at one point going to take these five gallon buckets of stuff that had been dropped in front of my house by the street sweeper to a City Council meeting, but they don’t care. This is just crazy.”

Dear reader,

Sounds like the streetsweeper is asleep at the wheel. First, since you’re awake anyway, flag the guy down and kindly ask him to “pick it up” a little on the job. Then, if that doesn’t work, call the company. The customer service number is (408) 842-3358 and the General Manager is Phil Couchee, while the Operations Manager is Steve Lucchetti. If that doesn’t work, call Red Phone back after the mess is left post sweeping and we’ll come out and take a picture of your bucket full of yuk and put it in the paper with a snappy headline like “Sweep This Recology.”

Fondly,

Red Phone ….
