Oakwood High School senior Harsh Sikka of Morgan Hill has captured his third top title in the 2013 Rotary Speech Contest, besting the winners from half of the 54 clubs in the Rotary District 5170. He will be among four students to vie for the final district championship and scholarship March 26 in Napa.

Sikka began by winning the local competition of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill in January, followed by the South County area championship and now the regional competition, which was hosted in Morgan Hill on Feb. 20.

The theme of his five-minute speech was “Peace Through Service.”

Sikka is the son of Dr. Nidhi Sikka and Mr. Vijay Sikka. His interests are basketball and drama and his educational goal is to study neuroscience at Stanford University.

The purpose of the Richard D. King Youth Speech Contest is to help young people know the importance of speaking effectively before a group; to expand public knowledge – especially among young people – of what Rotary is and does throughout the world; and to allow high school students the opportunity to compete for prize money that is intended to be used to further the student’s education.
