Twenty individuals are training to become movers and shakers in the community as they begin the Leadership Morgan Hill series this month.

Leadership Morgan Hill is a nine month extensive program that instills leadership tools and practical know-how that inspires it’s students to give back to their community.The concept behind the course, which was founded in 1995, can be seen in 56 communities throughout California, including nearby Gilroy.

Attendees are given instruction on economic development, education, local government, public safety, local media and other vital Morgan Hill issues.

While participating in the program, students create and complete a class project that benefits the community of Morgan Hill. Projects range from renovation of the historic Machado School building located west of Morgan Hill on Sycamore Drive; to the creation of Volunteer Morgan Hill – an organization that helps support volunteer efforts for the community.

Participants meet monthly, with six all-day sessions and eight evening sessions throughout the course. In addition to meetings, students have the opportunity to attend three hands-on retreats, including visiting the state government in Sacramento.

The membership of Leadership Morgan Hill contains several heavy-hitters; including two “Woman of the Year” recipients, chamber of commerce members, business people and prominent individuals throughout the community. According to their website, leadership graduates will become part of an influential network committed to the future of Morgan Hill. This year’s class of Leadership Morgan Hill students includes the following individuals:
