Morgan Hill City Council

Morgan Hill residents will have a chance to weigh in on the City’s ongoing effort to update the General Plan at a community workshop 6 p.m. Thursday at the Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road.

The General Plan update process, which City Hall has dubbed Morgan Hill 2035, will set about to modernize the City’s policy visions, goals and strategies for land use, residential and commercial growth and development for the next 20 years.

The painstaking General Plan update process will attempt to seek the input and insight of narrow focus groups – such as developers, business owners and senior citizens – as much as it wants to draw in the residential community at large, according to City staff.

“This (workshop) is where you can come and say what your vision of the community is,” Mayor Steve Tate said. “You want ownership of your community, and you want to see something happen that’s great. It’s the way to shape the future of your community.”

At Thursday’s workshop, residents will have a chance to discuss the existing General Plan vision statement and goals, and suggest any new visions or goals that reflect their needs and desires, according to a press release from The Planning Center, the consultant hired by the City to conduct the 18-month update.

Participants at Thursday’s workshop will focus on goals related to land use and development, growth management, economic development and housing, City staff said.

The City’s General Plan, a document required by state law, contains separate elements for housing, land use, open space, transportation, housing, conservation, safety and noise.
