A vegetation blaze on a hillside in southwest Morgan Hill Saturday afternoon was quickly extinguished by CalFire and South Santa Clara County Fire Department firefighters before it reached two homes that were threatened.
No one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire was not available by posting time.
Flames and smoke were visible from West Edmundson Avenue, south Dewitt Avenue and portions of Monterey Road as the fire swept over the peak of a hill at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Two homes, 634 and 636 Spring Avenue, were evacuated in case firefighters were unable to contain the blaze, and the western portion of Spring Avenue and southern portion of DeWitt Avenue from Spring Avenue to West Edmundson Avenue were closed to traffic for approximately an hour.
Gusty winds could have been a problem, but firefighters speedily knocked down the flames before the homes were seriously in danger.
Morgan Hill police officers assisting with traffic control noted that the direction of the wind was fortunate, but if it had shifted, firefighters could have been faced with a more serious situation.
