Coming this week: A weigh station and a pumpkin weigh-off
Oct 10, 2008
 By Morgan Hill Staff

1. Giant pumpkin weigh-off at Uesugi Farms

Heavyweight champion pumpkins will stress the scales at Uesugi Farms during the 19th annual weigh-in Saturday morning. Several proud contenders from throughout the West Coast will compete for more than $10,000 in prize money. Massive pumpkins will be lifted with a forklift on the farm's giant electronic scales under the watchfull eye of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth International Competition organization.

2. What goes on in the weigh station?

The California Highway Patrol inspects half a million commercial vehicles a year to keep roads safe. One of the most highly regulated industries in the state, truckers have to abide by strict guidelines to stay on the road.
