If you thought yesterday was hot, you'll think today is scorching.
The National Weather Service has dispatched a heat advisory for today from 12 to 8 p.m. Temperatures are expected to reach 103. Yesterday's high was in the low 90s.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued its own Spare the Air warning. The air quality for today is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. The district advised residents to reduce smog emissions by driving less, postponing or combing errands and avoiding polluting products.
Weather service officials advise to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, don't leave pets or children in cars and to stay out of the sun. Officials also suggested checking up on relatives and neighbors.
In response to the expected high temperatures, Santa Clara County opened two cooling centers in Morgan Hill Wednesday. One is at the Centennial Recreation Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave., and will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The other cooling center is at the Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road, and will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
While the weather service rescinded its initial heat advisory for Friday, citing sea breezes as cooling agents, the cooling centers will be open Friday as well.
By Saturday, much cooler temperatures are expected with daytime highs only reaching the lower 80s.
