Juvenile wounded in Gilroy shooting
Aug 7, 2008
 By Morgan Hill Staff

Police are investigating a shooting in north Gilroy that left two Gilroy residents wounded, but alive.

Gilroy police responded to a 9-1-1 call, 11:42 p.m. Aug. 6, reporting that shots had been fired on the 200 block of Farrell Avenue. A subsequent call for help reported that a juvenile had been shot.

The 15-year-old male victim sustained a non-life threatening gun shot wound and was treated and released from an area hospital. A second victim, a 26-year-old male, was also wounded but chose not to receive medical attention, police said.

The initial investigation revealed that more than one person, although police have not determined how many, approached a residence where the victim and several friends were gathered on a porch. One member of the approaching group fired into the group gathered on the porch and struck the victims.

Officers conducted several interviews and located evidence in the area, they did not specify what type. Members of the Anti-Crime Team are investigating the motivation for the shooting. They haven't determined if the crime was gang related but are looking into it, Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said.

Police are still gathering evidence of the shooting, which occurred late at night, trying to sort through several discrepancies in witnesses' statements, he said.

"We're trying to verify what they saw," Gallacinao said, "and sort through what's factual and what's perceived."
