Nominations sought for justice collaborative
Santa Clara County is seeking nominations for the newly established Juvenile Justice Systems Collaborative, a community council created to continue the work of the county's Juvenile Detention Reform.
In the best interest of minors in the local juvenile system, members of the collaborative will ensure the deployment of evidence-based practices in the system and create more opportunities for prevention and rehabilitation.
Based on its structure, eight of the collaborative's 25 positions are open for nomination and application by county residents.
The open positions are parent advocate,faith-based organization representative, school district superintendent, victim advocate, youth advocacy organization, youth advocate, youth or youth representative and youth service provider representative.
Membership in the collaborative extends until June 30, 2011. Anyone interested in applying must submit an application by 5 p.m. Monday. Visit the county Web site for more information at www.sccgov.org.
District attorney's office offers new on-line repor
Santa Clara County District Attorney Dolores Carr announced the launch of a new online report form for people who want to report a violation of a child custody or visitation court order. In the past, parents or guardians had to make their report at a local law enforcement agency or wait, sometimes a long time, for an officer to meet them at their home or at work.
Now people can make a report on-line. However, if the violation appears to be a case of possible child abduction, parents should call their local law enforcement agency immediately.
"Law enforcement simply does not have the staffing to do any follow-up on these visitation violation cases," Carr said. "This new on-line reporting system allows parents or guardians to make the report and frees local law enforcement to tend to other matters."
To report a violation, visit the district attorney's office at www.santaclara-da.org. In the left margin, click "District Attorney's Office Directory" and then click "District Attorney Departments." Down the center of the page, scroll down to the "Child Abduction Unit of the Family Violence Division" and click there. At the bottom of the page, you will find the link for the "Child Visitation Violation Form."
The report will be sent to the child abduction unit where it is reviewed. Reports remain on file here at the district attorney's office.
