After saying he might not run again after catching heat for his controversial re-election announcement at a recent council meeting, Councilman Mark Grzan said he still intends to run and he's got the papers to prove it.
Grzan met with City Clerk Irma Torrez on Tuesday to pick up the necessary nomination papers for his second four-year bid on the City Council.
Grzan announced his intention to run in November during a July 16 council report. During the reports, council members typically bring their colleagues and community members up to speed on their outside-the-dais activities. Grzan used the time to reflect on his past three and a half years on the council and to announce his intent to run again for the seat he's held since 2004.
Grzan was criticized for the move by fellow councilman Greg Sellers and by the Times Editorial Board in a house editorial.
Grzan admitted he saw how his statement could be construed as unethical, but did not admit wrongdoing. Grzan will write a letter to the editor or a guest column explaining himself in an upcoming issue of the Times.
