I'm calling to complain about two issues: both of them have to do with noise control over the area of Holiday Lake Estates and Morning Sun Terrace. The first issue is that the new Cal Star helicopter flew for approximately 20 minutes one morning just circling over our neighborhood making a large amount of noise. It landed in a field just down the hill from my house and I'm sure they were just testing it. I would like them to be aware that they are flying over a residential neighborhood. It was on a Sunday and they are very, very noisy.
My second issue has to do with a private plane. I believe it's a biplane but I may not be correct on that. It does aerial acrobatics over the same area which includes Holiday Lake Estates and Morning Sun Terrace. This airplane is very noisy. It goes up into the air, stalls the engine, and dives down; which I believe is probably illegal over a residential neighborhood. I'm wondering if there's a way you can determine through perhaps the San Martin Airport, where I'm assuming the airplane is taking off from, who this person is and let me know whether or not this sort of aerial acrobatics over a residential neighborhood is legal let alone the noise caused.
Red Phone: Dear Aircraft Noise Perturbed,
Ah yes, weekends. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, waking to the sounds of a plane dive bombing over your neighborhood; sounds like the makings of a typical relaxing weekend. Reader, here's some information Red Phone pulled off from the County of Santa Clara Airport's Web site at www.countyairports.org/noise_standards.htm#sc_noise. All aircraft concerns (noise, low flying aircraft, stunts, etc.) may be reported to the Airport's Noise Program Manager at (866) 638-2344. Referral information may also be submitted to noise@countyairports.org. When calling, the Department of Noise Standards asks that you provide a name, address, phone number, e-mail, time event took place, type of aircraft involved (color, number of engines, distinguishing features), and provide the best time a return call can be made. Performing stunts over a residential area does not sound smart. It seems that the pilot lacks common sense and courtesy.
Waiting for Wal-Mart
I'm calling to check on the Wal-Mart store here . I'm wondering when it's going to open?
Red Phone: Dear Awaiting Shopper
Yes, development is still underway at the old Target loca tion at Cochrane Plaza. The new store will come with a full grocery section and garden center so that you may buy food for you and your plants! The store is projected to open around winter 2008. See you at the self checkout!
Tints don't hide ugly personalities
What's the law on tinted windows? The other day I was being tailgated by some [expletive] and when he finally passed me I wanted to get a good look at him/her but his front side windows were fully tinted. I wanted to know what he looked like just in case I run into him at the grocery store or gas station.
Red Phone: Dear Anti-Tailgating:
Tailgating is a common dangerous practice that, while illegal, is not often reported. Tailgaters are usually ignorant and unaware of the dangers they create when they follow too close behind a moving vehicle. Drivers need to be aware of the posted speed limit and stay with the flow of traffic at a safe speed to avoid being tailgated. Drivers need to also remember the two-second rule or the one yard per every mph distance behind a vehicle to allow them time to react in case of an emergency or bad weather. As for tints, nothing less than 70 percent is allowed for the front windows. There are no restrictions for any of the rears and as for the front windshield, a non reflective four-inch strip is allowed on the top. Just get his license plate number and report the tint and the tailgating next time.
