Shed carbon pounds at green forum
A free climate change forum will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Community and Cultural Center. A guest speaker from Local Governments for Sustainability will discuss global warming impacts, state legislation addressing the issue and what other communities are doing to combat global climate change.
Participants will be called to act by completing the Low Carbon Diet Program. The program involves several households working together to each lose 5,000 pounds of carbon in 30 days through two face-to-face meetings and by using a workbook to track progress. Staff will lead the carbon diet club and provide tools to help participants alter behaviors by supplying low-flow showerheads, green shopping bags, sticker prompts and much more. The Low Carbon Diet has been implemented in other cities, such as Portland Oregon where 131 households participated to shed an estimated 655,000 lbs of carbon dioxide. The public is invited.
