The city is looking for community members to participate in the Housing Element Task Force, which will help update the state-mandated housing section of the general plan.
The purpose of the task force is to make sure that the city's plans and policies allow for sufficient housing for all economic aspects of the community, particularly affordable housing, said city planner David Bischoff.
City staff has proposed the task force to meet about 10 times between August and December. The city hopes to have between 10 and 15 task force members representing a cross-section of the community, including an affordable housing developer, a senior advisory commissioner, an emergency housing consortium member, a Community Solutions member, a non-profit housing service provider for South County, a Santa Clara County Housing Authority person, a builder, a major employer, a real estate representative and at least one community member at-large. A city council member and a planning commissioner may also serve.
Members will be updating the housing element at a particularly heady time for the city, with two ballot measures to take into consideration. One is a contentious initiative brought forth from the developers and real estate community that would greatly reduce affordable housing in the city and the other is a possible city ballot measure to increase density in the city's downtown core.
Those interested in becoming a member of the task force or have questions about the process, send a letter of interest to Bischoff, Community Development Department, 17555 Peak Ave., Morgan Hill, CA 95037, or e-mail David.Bischoff@morganhill.ca.gov.
