Ann Sobrato High School's music and arts festival May 15-21 will feature San Jose music group Smash Mouth and Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, hosts of the Discovery Show Mythbusters.
The festival showcases area artists and exposes students and the community to a variety of art forms raising money for the school's arts program.
"My wife is a public high school teacher here in California who has seen the effects of these budget cuts first hand," Jamie Hyneman said.
As California budget cuts threaten to eliminate several educational programs across the state, festival student organizers decided to take matters into their own hands by putting together the ambitious event to keep their arts program alive.
"I've been looking forward to the festival of the arts for a few years now, ever since I got into a film production class at Sobrato," Sobrato senior Matthew Altamirano said. "I had the opportunity to produce and direct a film with a Hollywood actor this past year and that movie was scheduled to premiere at the festival. I decided to do whatever it takes to make sure it went on as planned."
Tickets cost from $15 to $48 and a festival pass costs $68.
