Like the city of Gilroy and the Santa Clara Valley Water District, Morgan Hill city employees could be drinking tap water at their meetings and events.
In an effort to save energy and waste associated with the production of single-serving bottled water, the Public Works Department has drafted a policy that would ban the city purchase of bulk water.
The policy however will not stop city employees from purchasing water from vending machines on city property or bringing bottled water from home.
The policy will be reviewed and possibly adopted Wednesday evening by the Morgan Hill City Council during its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 17555 Peak Ave.
Tony Eulo, the city's environmental program administrator, said that the ban will save energy associated with the production of bottled water and will force the city to use more efficient ways of getting water for meetings and events.
"A lot of energy is used in the production of bottled water," Eulo said. "Our city tap water is clean and safe to drink."
